Character Information: Character Name: Elena Gilbert
Age: 17
Canon: The Vampire Diaries Appearance: Elena is of average height, and an athletic slender build. She is a bit average, long straight brown hair, brown eyes, light complexion.
Personality: In the years proceeding her parent's death -- Elena was just your average teenager, she had nothing to do with vampires, or anything like that, thank you very much. She was one of the popular girls, she had lots of friends, very social and cheerful -- a cheerleader, even. After the accident that led to her parent's death, she underwent a change, that led up to the mostly quiet and sad, somewhat awkward girl she is in the start of the series who fakes her way through the day, takes care of her brother and sits in graveyards. However, upon starting the relationship she has with one Stefan Salvatore, some of this old persona of hers returns and we see some of the more out there, and happy Elena of old.
Elena is very caring of her friends and family and even for those who wouldn't really expect it from her. But she is also very not afraid to call someone out on being stupid, something to which her brother can testify to as she has basically been up on him for the drug use that began after their parent's death. Or secretive, she does not appreciate being lied to. Looking at you now, Stefan Salvatore. Or Damon, for just being... well, Damon.
She also has a fierce streak, and isn't afraid to let people know exactly how she feels about something. Or to take matters into her own hands, and has, whatever logic you throw at her be dammed, hers trumps - even to the point of putting her own self at risk to help someone that she cares about. She is feisty and will fight back if put into a situation that requires it, even if that same situation seems hopeless.
There is also a fair bit of fear - for losing anyone else in her life. When Stefan tries to leave her, she tells her, knowing full well just how dangerous it is, that if he were to leave it is not because he wants to keep her safe, but for him because she will make her own choice. There's a bit of stubborn resolve in her, and a fair bit of pushiness but she can let go when need be.
Background: ...you may want to grab that bottle of corellian brandy for this part, you'll need it.
Elena Gilbert is the adopted daughter of Greyson and Miranda Gilbert, the oldest of the two Gilbert siblings - the younger being Jeremy. Her birth mother, a young girl by the name of Isobel, gave her up as soon as she had her. Unbeknownst to Elena, her actual father is the man she has always known as her uncle.
She had a fairly uneventful upbringing, a popular girl in school with lots of friends, good grades, a loving family and even did cheerleading in high school. On the night of May 23, 2009, her parents were killed in a car accident - one of which Elena somehow "miraculously" survived, despite her being in the backseat of the time. She woke up right after, in a hospital bed, unsure of how she came to be there. She was found and rescued by one Stefan Salvatore, the very Stefan Salvatore who she'd come to meet on her first day back of high school, the first time back after her parent's death.
He's the new kid. Tall, and mysterious - disappearing and appearing and when she runs into him at a graveyard he starts acting all odd like - especially when he sees the cut on her leg she got from tripping when all of that mysterious fog rolled in.
Huh,
weird.
It doesn't help things that Bonnie, her best friend who claims she's psychic (but unbeknown st to anyone yet is actually a witch), warns her about him - telling her that she sensed something wrong about Stefan. Or that Stefan's creepy brother is hanging around. However, she finds herself drawn to him still -- so much so that they hook up finally. When she eventually quits cheerleading he gives her a necklace containing a certain vampire repellent (not that she knows this, he doesn't say "wear this, it'll protect you from vampires"), as a token of his feelings. However, Stefan's weirdness continues when he cuts himself and the cut...heals on it's own. Damon shows up again, tries to "compel" her, but the necklace Stefan gave her keeps him from doing that and when he goes in for a kiss - bam - she smacks him.
So, Stefan and Elena go on a ~date~, Damon continues to be a creeper, things are still tense between her and Jeremy and her friend Caroline is acting weird(er than usual).
After the odd night at the founder's party, Elena doesn't hear from Stefan for three days. When she finally does see him, he reveals a bit more about himself (yay,
finally!) and on their next venture, they run into a man who recalls seeing Stefan before - way back when. When Stefan denies it, she later talks to him and learns that that was back in say, 1953. It's then that Elena begins to put the pieces together... she confronts him. And when he basically confirms what she already knows, she runs off.
When he confronts her in her room she accuses him of the attacks, which he admits were his brother's doing. Of course things go even worse, when instead of killing the girl his brother likes/does drugs with, he turns her. It's then, Elena knows that Stefan wont hurt her -- but she doesn't want to be involved with him. However, they get back together after a tragedy, only after Elena is once again put in danger, he breaks it off with her. But she pleads with him, confesses her feelings and they share a love scene. However, when Elena sees the picture of Katherine in his room, she flees and leaves the necklace behind.
Only to get into a car wreck a few minutes later.
Way to go.
Damon rescues her, and takes her to see an old friend. When she returns, Stefan tells her some truth (finally!), that she was adopted.
More stuff happens - that lead up to Stefan and Elena going to the 50's dance at the school, and Elena being Elena winds up being chased by another vampire - but she fights him back, then Stefan and Damon come and question the vampire then stake him. Elena agrees with Stefan, and decides to pretend to help Damon find what he is looking for. But when Damon finds out they never meant to help him in the first place, he is pissed. And when she is captured by vampires, trying to release the vampires in the tomb, she and Bonnie escape.
They agree to help Damon open the tomb to get Katherine, but she isn't there. Eventually Elena learns news of her mother, only to find out that Damon killed her. So much for feeling sorry for him. But when Stefan is taken and tortured by the vampires that were let out of the tomb, she goes to Damon for help and they manage to free him. However when the vampires give chase, Stefan is too weak too fight so Elena gives him some of her blood to help him. Which in turn allows him to fight them off, but also causes him to get addicted to it again.
Oops.
During the Ms. Mystic Falls competion, Stefan kidnaps one of the girls and drinks from her while Elena and Stefan share a dance. When they find him, he is out of control. And when she confronts him in his room, she knocks him out so he can detox. Stefan gets out of the cells and tries to throw himself into the sunlight, but Elena talks him out of it.
But guess who is comes back into town but Elena's birth mother, who is actually a vampire and a real nasty piece of work. She threatens Elena's friends and family for a device that they are in possession of but don't know how it works.
Elena is coming here from the end of this episode - 1.21"
Isobel"
And if you read all of that, I am so very sorry.
Special Abilities or Weapons: Her necklace contains a herb called vervain that'll keep her from being a snack/compelled by a vampire. But other than that, nothing.
Sect: Civilian
Job: Unsure as of yet.
Samples: First Person: [The sound clicks on, you can hear someone moving, muttering--] Somehow I don't know how I'm going to explain this one to Aunt Jenna. Telling her I got dropped into the plot of a Star Wars movie is a bit out there of an excuse. This is so weird, even for me --
-- wait, is this thing on?
[Voice gets a little clearer when she lifts the device to speak into it.] Hello? Um, anyone listening, my name is Elena... I don't suppose anyone could tell me where this
really is, could they? Because last I checked, Star Wars isn't real.
[Muttered, inaudible, under her breath:] Then again, vampires weren't real a few months ago either.
Right. If there is a Stefan ....or Damon Salvatore out there listening to this, we need to talk.
Third Person: Elena had long since disagreed with the term "things can't get any worse", because on the contrary, her life right now was saying the exact opposite. It could
always get worse, and it usually did. That was her life, these last few months, the light at the end of that tunnel hadn't shown it's face yet and she was sick of walking around, looking for it and running into the walls - when she just wanted to sit down.
Right now, was a prime example of one of those times.
Since she'd found out just who and what the Salvatore brothers were, accepted that her best friend was a very powerful witch, she'd opened her mind to the fact that all sorts of things existed. Things that a few months ago, didn't exist in her world a few months ago when she was your average high school student, friendly and popular.
But this was before her parents died, before she met Stefan Salvatore and his brother - and vampires became a part of her everyday existence. But she couldn't even say
that anymore because they had always been a part of her life, apparently - she just didn't know that. Her unearthly resemblance to a woman she'd never met, the same one that had turned her boyfriend into a vampire more than a hundred years ago, had to mean just that, right?
Elena didn't believe in coincidences. There was
no way that she wasn't connected to Katherine.
And, well. Back to this very moment, here she was - sitting in a crowded room full of people, and things that were obviously alien (unless she had just walked into a rather impressive sci-fi convention sometime in the last day) like the thing sitting next her which she cast another quick glance at before turning back to stare at the table.
Suddenly, Elena found herself wishing for the days when her biggest worry was passing that Algebra exam that she had in first period which she didn't study for and the only vampires she knew of were found in
Twilight.
Anything Else: um, that's it, I think.
